Statement on recent developments :​

Bilateral relations between Canada and Saudi Arabia include common interests on many peace and security issues, including energy security, humanitarian affairs (including refugees), and counter-terrorism. Canada recognizes that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia plays an important role in promoting regional peace and stability. 

We are aware of the many important steps that have been taken to improve relations between the two countries in the past number of years, including the recent decision to make it easier for Canadians to travel to Saudi Arabia.

Canadian society is very proud of the contribution it is making  to educate some of the future leaders of Saudi society, including its very talented group of Saudi physicians as well as exceptional students of other disciplines.

We are genuinely concerned by recent developments and would respectfully urge the governments of both countries to engage in dialogue on outstanding issues that leads to full restoration of our important bilateral relationship.
